Favourite Fixes for Damaged or Colour Treated Hair
Samantha Silver · May 11th, 2020
My hair journey began years ago when I first colour treated my hair in my teens. At the time Jessica Simpson was my hair idol, I wanted to look exactly how I saw her in all of the magazines. Even though Jennifer Aniston’s colour was on trend as well, I decided to go the bolder and lighter choice.
My hairstylist that did my regular cuts at the time was chosen for the job. Without asking me for any reference images we went ahead as I had full trust in him. While colouring my hair he didn’t watch the time, and literally burnt off some of my brow hairs with the colour he used. To this day I still have had a hard time being able to grow them back. My scalp was burned and my new blonde head of hair was left completely dry and damaged. I will never forget the feeling of how easily my self confidence was stripped away along with my beautiful healthy hair.

From that day forward I made it my mission to ensure I did lots of research before trying anything new on my hair and to never let it get that damaged again. I ended up leaving my hair colour-free for four years and let it grow back healthy, like I had always known it to be. A fresh new start!

Needless to say I got bored of my natural colour after a while and wanted a change. I researched the best colourists with top reviews, looked up images and asked my friends for recommendations. I would highly recommend doing your research if you're interested in colouring your hair, as that was the mistake I made the first time around. I ended up finding someone amazing that I still see to this day!
As soon as I began coloring my hair again I was sure to take my hair routine to the next level. With even more hair masks, oils, and purple products. Since then I’ve never looked back and have been investing in my hair just as much as I do my skin. It is so important to take care of both your hair and skin. It’s really interesting to see how many people forget about caring for their hair, with many people not realizing how much you can actually do to improve your hair.

Below are a list of products that have worked wonders on maintaining my completely undamaged hair while bleaching it now for six plus years. Some are targeted for all hair types and others are best for blondes!

Kérastase Elixir Oil

This specific product really helped me with hair growth and overall fullness. I have used this religiously for years as it is so nourishing and perfect for styling. I love to use it for that slicked back bun look, that I often do instead of blow drying and using heat on my hair!
Olaplex #3

If you haven’t already tried this product it is a must! It is well worth the price as I find a little goes a very long way. Follow the instructions on the bottle accordingly or you can take it to the next level and sleep with it on overnight. I also love to use it for styling!
OGX Miracle Oil Hair Mask

I am a huge fan of coconut oil in general so finding such an effective hair mask with it as a key ingredient was really exciting! The size of the container is quite large and this product really leaves your hair feeling so smooth and silky after using it.

Whether it is a purple mask, shampoo or conditioner all blondes should invest in one! This comes in a shampoo and conditioner form as well that I love to use for helping with brassiness or yellow undertones that you may notice in your hair colour overtime.

Moroccan Oil Perfect Defence Heat Protectant or for blondes the Kérastase Blond Absolu Heat Protecting Serum

Using any type of spray, cream, serum, oil or product that protects from heat damage when using hot tools is so important! This is a key step to maintaining healthy hair.

If you have other questions I suggest researching more yourself online for your specific hair type and colour. You can also reach out to me to chat or learn more by following along on IG @styledbysilver.

Before self-isolation began I had the pleasure of attending the launch event for the new Foreo UFO. I had been using the Foreo Mini 3 for years and was so excited to learn more about the brand.

Whether you are working from home during these uncertain times, recently unemployed with too much free time on your hands, or going through something else during this self-isolation period, it is normal to feel more anxious than usual.
